I know Ken is well aware of this source of info- if others of you happen to
be LinkedIn Members, then I'd encourage you to join the Cloud Security
Alliance Group if you'd like to see and/or participate in some "spirited
discussions" on the topic.

Suffice to say, there are KoolAid providers and others who caution against
drinking the KoolAid and at times it's more enjoyable than others. =)

As to the discussion of security and who owns what and if you control what
others do with your data once it goes into a vaporous environment, the most
important tools you have are CONTRACTS and SLAs. Make sure you know who is
doing what, make sure you understand the liabilities the vendor is assuming
(and the limits of those liabilities) and make sure you establish CLEAR and
UNDERSTANDABLE guidelines about what happens to YOUR INFORMATION ASSETS.
If you can't get this, make sure someone else's name is on the Contract.

Until you get there, here's some more reading for you:

bit.ly/WdUQb (who should and shouldn't be in the cloud)

bit.ly/3SeXai (is the cloud right for RM)

bit.ly/vMwqE (what happens if you DON'T have good SLAs)

bit.ly/UFpR9 (who is responsible for your stuff in the cloud)

bit.ly/1R7FRn (other potential models for cloud security)

What I always find most interesting is the people who support this model for
storage are those selling it or offering services tied to it, or those who
have no direct responsibility for the management of information assets for
an organization. Once you have this responsibility as part of your regular
duties and have ownership of it in your position description, you are much
less willing to 'take something new for a spin'.

This is a definite case where being on the leading edge is more like being
on "the bleeding edge", and if you want to be first on the list to be in the
cloud, don't be surprised if it's not long before you're on this list too.
