Folks,
At the university we palletize the boxes and a shredding/recyle company 
picks them up.  They pay us for the paper & cardboard.  Shredding
at one's business is problematical because of the particulates generated 
such as silica used in sizing and metals used as brighteners.  Many 
recycle companies
don't accept shredded material from a business because it is too hard to 
handle until it gets to the final pulping process.  One also has the 
potential
for future health related litigation from those who did the on-site 
shredding especially if proper respirators are not used, etc.  The 
particulates can also get in the buildings HVAC
system unless a, separate, out-door facility is used for the shredding.  
Industrial shredders can run $8-$10K so why not let someone pay you to 
do it.  We've never
had any problem with improper destruction of confidential information.  
If you outsource visit the facility, get security responsibility in the
