OCLC and the Northeast Document Conservation Center has held a number of
seminars on this topic, including one in Seattle in 2007 which I thought
was excellent (and covered a lot of the same topics indicated in the DNV
publication).

This may be a new topic to many on this listserv, but has actually been
a topic of discussion/analysis in government programs at least since
President Bush's emails were determined to be subject to public records
requirements back in 1992. InterPARES has addressed this topic, as have
NARA and the SAA.

If you have a chance to attend one of the OCLC seminars on this issue, I
would highly recommend it. While highly theoretical, one can pick up
practical steps that can be taken now to "do no harm" in the future.
