Not actually a belief but something I hear all the time?

Employee:  How long do I need to keep my email?
Records Manager:  (holding up a paper so the employee can't see the content)  How long do we have to keep this paper?
Employee:  Well it depends what's on the paper!
Records Manager:  Exactly!

Another belief:  A Public Record (as defined by the state public records act) has to be kept forever so anyone can look at it!

Myth:  The records manager is going to tell me to keep everything!

Subject: Records Management Myths?

I'm not talking about the myth of the paperless office or the mythical
study that tells us how long people waste looking for paper files.
Instead, I'm interested in hearing about "beliefs" that you've
encountered from employees/customers/etc regarding records. 

For example, the myth that all records must be kept for 7 years.  Myths
such as that.  

I'm putting together a training session and I'd like to include some of
these myths and then debunk them for the crowd.
