Sometimes ago I also asked the same question about the sharepoint.
 
My main point is - does Sharepoint answer records management needs, are all areas could be managed with Sharepoint, or it is something that in one area yes, in another area not. 
In my situation, I was told that Sharepoint is our future, it is the only electronic records management solution that will answer everything.
When I ask how the sharepoint will manage the tax  collection' programs , I have  answer that we will find solution.
What about budget management - the same answer.
What about Facilities and properties management -the same answer.
My question is what do you use Sharepoint for?
Does it work for internal use only or for external "customers" as well - what about Firewalls
