There is one thing that you need to be cautious of when using an
outsourced research group. They are only as good as the updates. My
pet peeve with the products that I've used is that they get behind in
their updates of current legislation. When I last used one of these
products, I sent an updated regulatory requirement to my vendor and
asked "Why isn't this in our database?"...and his reply was "Because
this is the first time I've seen it."
Kinda scarey.

Good afternoon Ben,
We actually have used both to develop our schedules. If you look back
through the list archives there are some other opinions, including one
from myself from some time ago. That in mind my short opinion on the
matter is Zasio is more intuitive and user friendly. It also has a bit
more customization options like adding your own fields to the reports
and
tools for tracking progress and interviews. They are just releasing the
latest update Zasio 8 and we have not yet had a chance to install and
explore but it is my understanding that there will be some great
additions
like being able to add your own citations.
As for IRCH's product I would say that perhaps Retention Manager 3 is
better for someone who is starting from scratch and does not really need
to customize to much as they have decent preset schedules with the legal
research they considered already attached. Personally we knew we were
going to have to check that research anyway so we figured that we might
as
well use the tool that is most user friendly to actually develop the
schedules.
Hope that helps and good luck!
David Ives

Any listserv members out there who have chosen Zasio's Versatile
Retention over IRCH's product Retention Manager 3 when doing comparison
shopping? If so, what was the reasoning for your choice? Thanks.
