I am traveling to Burnaby for a little seminar and we will talk about Trends in Data Storage, impacts of new legislation on this field, new technology for tracking media (software, RFID Labels, GPS tracked vans and media and security in general).

How is British Columbia and Canada different from the United States? Are PIPEDA and PII basically the same thing? Is HIPAA a cross border issue? Do CEO's and CFO's have the same liability in Canada?

Do communities along the border with the U.S. behave differently than those way up North?

If you would like to reply to me privately to avoid embarrassing me with my lack of knowledge about specifics, that is fine too.

Since I deal with records protection on a global scale, I find that the flavor changes dramatically with regard to protecting documents and media and even artifacts by community. For example, Native American and Tribal Organizations take a much more protective approach than some states. Big cities in Canada seem to show more concern for records protection than small communities. But small towns show more concern for protecting their heritage than large towns in the U.S.

Will British Columbia have different concerns than other parts of Canada?
