Yes but the inefficiency in business comes from the abuse by SPAM and distractions sending jokes. It is the fact that it is free that makes it so attractive to Spammers. I would not mind spending $0.05¢ to send a legitimate business email. Time is our most valuable commodity and email started off as a huge efficiency but now the ads and scams waste so much time. When my inheritance comes in from Nigeria I am quitting this racket. And from now on call me Prince Obi Wan Kenobi as I have been told that is my Nigerian heritage name. (It seems I have heard that name somewhere before??)

Why I just sent off two "Little Larry" jokes to Peter and Larry this morning. (BTW, Larry, the name thing is just a coincidence. Honest.)

Seriously what if email was as practical as we originally dreamed it would be?

I bet cell phone had a lot to do with that. Even my wife's parents have a cell phone. They turn it on only on Saturday to call everyone with their free friends and family plan on weekends. They are 88 and 87 but they are now on the grid.

Our family set up a Yahoo site and every one of us can post to it with family news. (Eight original brothers and sisters, four of us are still living, 25 kids from the eight, 31 grandkids, plus all the inlaws)

It gives instant communication of news of birthdays, graduations and so on. It brought us all closer together. But you are right, it is the phone call that really spreads warmth. Email can remove that. But we call each other more as some post will trigger a call to share a laugh or a more heartfelt congratulations for a major event.
