The publication of inclusion of social security numbers (and other personal
identifying information) in real estate records and court records has been a
continuing source of angst for many. Title companies and attorneys
sometimes include that information (or have included that information where
not legally prohibitied from doing so) in the real estate filings. Some
states have required Clerks/Recorders/Registers to redact that information
from records at the time of filing, and some counties have redacted that
information from all electronically available information.

Court records are perhaps a more significant challenge, especially for
family court where substantial personal identifying information is often
included in court orders and in the "financial inventories" that divorcing
couples submit. Bank Accounts, Credit Card accounts, Social Security
numbers, etc. are often included.
