TN Downtown Centre sustains ‘catastrophic’ water leak
The Downtown Centre in Johnson City will be closed this week after a water
line ruptured over the weekend, filling the building with three inches of
water. Anyone needing to do business at the Centre, such as obtaining a
marriage license or license plate tags, will be redirected to the Washington
County Courthouse in Jonesborough until repairs are complete.
Emergency services alerted Washington County Mayor George Jaynes when water
was seen leaking from the center’s front door, over the sidewalk and onto
West Market Street Sunday. Jaynes called Jim Powell, the county safety
officer, who arrived immediately and turned off the valve.
