State Department affirms that there is no political filtering of FOIA
requests
The U.S. State Department uses retired Foreign Service officers to help
determine what internal documents and memos can be released for Freedom of
Information Act requests, according to a new internal report by its own
Office of the Inspector General that gives a peek into how the department
handles FOIA issues.

The State department is notorious among journalists for its slow responses
to FOIA requests. For instance, in one case it took ten years for the
department to response to a FOIA request from a decade ago.
