This is an appalling request by an employer.  It also seems like a violation
of some of the telemarketing rules of the Federal Trade Commission,
depending on the business involved.  If I had the ability to reach the
writer, I'd be suggesting that they contact the FTC for advise and support
(readily available at FTC.gov).

As to David's reference to the "enterprise's social media policy", it seems
unlikely that a business that would ask its employees to do this sort of
thing would have such a policy in place.  Actually, it would be amusing to
find out if people hiring on with the firm have actually agree to do this
sort of thing, if directed to by management.
