I think it would depend on whether the writer to the advice column was referring to Corporate Facebook accounts or private/personal Facebook accounts.  While I personally think this activity is misleading to customers, it seems to me that an employer would not necessarily request such activity for the private/personal Facebook accounts of their employees, but may believe they have a right to request this activity for Corporate Facebook accounts.
