I'm aware of one board that has done just that -- a non-profit board that my 
boss serves on. However, the biggest issue with iPads and similar devices is 
that they are not yet generally capable to be equipped with enterprise-class 
security features out of the box. The iPad can be secured, but it takes a bit of 
doing. E-discovery forensics are also a bit challenging.

Keep in mind that board members often have very sensitive information sent to 
them, so security is critical.
