Fred,
You are right.
It was a prison too.
Generally, it was court with prison.
But it was the place where all records related to "loans and mortgages" were kept.
And the main point was to receive access to the records and destroy that "Loan Records" during "appraisal", deliberation of prisoners was the second step.
By the way, many inmates were in Bastille as result of the court activity following  loan payments.
This is the background behind my question what was Bastille - Archives or Records Centre.
It was the beginning of "Open Archives" concept.

Regards,

Alex Babin

Alex asked "By the way, how you will describe Bastille in Paris - Archives, or Records Centre?"

It was a prison. Not a completely horrible one, as prisons go, but one with an unpleasant reputation.

I'm assuming, of course, that your question concerned the original Bastille, not the opera house ...

Fred

Dear Fred,

"Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was a journalist".
The writing was a kind of hobby as for all educated people of that time.
Some people remains well known writers, compositors, other forgotten, or are not on the first page.
By the way, there are many other Russian well known in Russia,French and German speaking countries, who worked in archives and records management field.
Pushkin was Records Management Assistant in the Archives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, normal position for people who did not go to serve for military service.
His position allowed him to go through  lot of documents related Russian affairs with territories that were "attached" to Russia in 17-18 centuries, and with records related to affairs with foreign countries,  Spain, is well known example.
Also, he travelled south, now it would be called job related travelling.

That all.
 Records Management Assistant In Archives.
This is the connection between Archives and Records management.
By the way, how you will describe Bastille in Paris - Archives, or Records Centre?

Regards,

Alex Babin
