I thought readers of the list might find the following links of interest.  The links suggest that individuals should be able to control the retention by third parties of their own data.  By implication this might mean that those third parties would need to provide explicit notification when they transfer personal data to other business partners.  If this proposal goes forward -- it may be necessary for firms to have clear retention policies with respect to such information.
