I am in the process of digesting our recently completed Records Inventory in
an attempt to create a Records Retention Schedule. At my previous employer
I purchased and used Zasio’s Versatile Retention to manage our schedule and
perform legal research. Since I hadn’t implemented a retention schedule any
other way, VR seemed to be the nice option. I have since talked to many RIM
colleagues who say managing a RRS is just as easy, and less expense, in
Access. Before I decide which way to go with this project, and since it isn’t
one you want to switch back and forth between technologies, I thought I
would hit up the listserv for some feedback.

So, for those of you who have used both Access (Excel included) AND a third-
party software for managing your Records Retention Schedules (Zasio,
Skupsky, etc.), and excluding the legal research function, which option did
you prefer and why?

All insight is appreciated.

All the best,
