As a side effect of mobile IT Chiropractors are reporting increasing
cases of texting neck. See for example:

As for myslef I am pretty dubious of the capability of online reading to
replace hard copy reading because the technology is not up to it. I
know because I have both bifocals and computer glasses and still tend
to print out anything that is more than 2 or 3 pages. If I don't do this I
tend to end up with a headache.

The other issue with online reading is that it is a fundamentally
different experience than reading hard copy text. Our online socially
connected world encourages quick gut reactions rather than reflection.
At least for me reading hard copy in a quiet place is one that allows me
the space to reflect and consider. I know that there may be people who
disagree with me -- but consider I am in the last two chapters of an
800 page history of modern Europe and I would challenge anyone to try
soething like this online.
