Angie,

I realized after Patrick's reply that my message was woefully insufficient. I replied, however in an ironic twist of fate the reply went to Patrick individually rather than to the list as was intended.

This is what I wrote in reply to Patrick:

"To briefly clarify, I did not intend to discount any certification's worth for what it is, but was saying that none of them, on their own, can answer the broad issues contained in IG, nor do any of them attempt to. (And I think from your comments, you would agree with me on that).

ARMA's new certification, as I understand it, is looking at the broader concept of IG, encompassing many of the existing specialties we have mentioned, and even at least one we haven't, namely the CRM. I don't think ARMA is claiming to "own" IG, but rather working to help define it in the marketplace by attempting to address it on the whole rather than in pieces.

It is a different approach, with a different end-game for potential certification holders."

I think what you describe below is what is intended. As a collaborative, and complimentary effort with the intent of harmonizing the various specialities that make up the expertise required to effect good information governance under a common framework. As someone who clearly has an interest in such an endeavor, I hope you will consider participating in the IGP development process. Your insight and expertise would be much appreciated and valued.

I hope that is helpful clarification, and again apologize for my late night, overly brief original response.

Respectfully,
Julie
