I agree with you.  The two attendees exhibited plain bad manners.  It is as bad as having folks carry on side conversations during the speaker presentation - it is distracting to others and demonstrates lack of professionalism on their part.  Maybe a meeting about work behavior and etiquette in the modern world of instant technology?
