I agree that we often have to work and learn at the same time, and found myself having to do just that today at an ARMA meeting.  I find I can listen very well to engaging speakers while answering email from work on my i-phone.

As a solo records manager, taking two hours away in the middle of the day is not something I can do regularly without having some way to be available to my population.

I'd also like to take just a moment to pose a possible explanation for the participant who paused long enough to eat (as I'm afraid I have found myself in this situation a time or two).  The time between speakers is when group members are supposed to socialize with one another.  I think it would be far more rude to keep emailing during that time then to quietly carry out business while everyone should be looking at the speaker, and not me.

That is just my opinion, but I freely admit to being a gen X-er
