The below message was sent out yesterday from our Information Assurance
Officer. Just passing along for those of you who may be interested.
-----Original Message-----
Hackers have posted over 6.5 million LinkedIn password hashes to a web site
in Russia asking for assistance cracking them.
1. What does this mean? The passwords will soon be cracked.
2. What should you do?
- If you have a LinkedIn account, change your password.
- If you use the same password for other accounts (Banking, Facebook,
Email, other web sites) that you use for your LinkedIn account, change those
passwords too.
- Tell your friends and family members.
3. LinkedIn states those affected will receive an email from LinkedIn with
instructions on how to reset their passwords. Note: The email from LinkedIn
will NOT contain a link, just instructions on how to reset your password.
Please pay attention to any email claiming to be from LinkedIn, as malicious
people may take advantage of this situation and start sending "phishing"
emails appearing to come from LinkedIn. Again, the email from LinkedIn will
NOT contain a link to reset your password.
