Hugh commented "Somewhere, there needs to be course given to IT Managers and CIO's that explains why speed and density and just a low cost place to store things is not a "Big Boy" solution."

Actually, Hugh, most of the IT managers and CIOs with whom I am acquainted are hard-core cynics (if you gave them a gift horse, they wouldn't look it in the mouth--they would send it to the knackers).

Records managers have for years complained about how difficult it is to get C-level execs to take them seriously.

IT folk face a different problem: the technology-obsessed C-level executive. This person has been to a conference or a trade show, been VASTLY impressed by some glitzy bit of technology, and wants to know WHY it can't be adopted IMMEDIATELY!!!

Most CIOs have learned to overcome this silliness, but once in a while, the silliness overcomes all rationality and takes over ..... for a while.
