Julie,

Your query is one that all of us--both in corporations and law firms--are making, or should be making.  Between the movement toward process management, the new ABA standards for technology competency, and the continued demand for lower costs, I am sure we are all going to be looking for the same solutions.

One possibility for you to consider is the new portfolio of tools called RitterMaps, which is just now entering the marketplace.  I met yesterday with Jeffrey Ritter, who is the designer of these tools.  Jeffrey is a pioneer in the digital information field.

RitterMaps are visual process maps that enable the full litigation lifecycle to be planned and managed.  Budgets can be developed, project plans constructed, and real-time progress reports generated.

What makes these cool is that RitterMaps include extensive cross-references and embedded links to rules, technology standards, and case decisions--this means we can all understand, and be able to show, the "why" we do certain things.  There are model checklists, spreadsheets, discovery plans, or link to your own templates or knowledge management library.  I saw several examples--these go beyond anything I have seen.

In addition, RitterMaps include direct links to over 120 on-demand lessons that enable attorneys and administrators to learn more (the Ritter Academy itself offers some neat training).

RitterMaps are being "soft-launched" before a major release in Q4.  But you can learn more here or just write to Jeffrey at [log in to unmask]  Hope that helps.

Subject: Legal Case Management Software

My Company is looking for software to manage their litigation case load.  We
are interested in the system having functionality for budgeting, electronic
billing, calendaring, workflow and document management, but not necessarily
an e-discovery system.  Can any of you provide information (good or bad) on
systems you have used in this realm of functionality?  Thank you in advance
for any direction you can provide.
