Dearest Colleagues,
I'm back from vacation. Here's my latest blog post. As always, please let me
know what you think. I value your ideas!
"Understanding Information Governance from the Perspective of 'Lean'
Thinking"
Lean strategy is concerned with improving customer value while reducing
waste. The customers of Information Governance include the client or
citizen. While many parties now included under the rubric of IG: content and
document management product companies, integrators, and consultants,
eDiscovery experts, search and taxonomy development companies, data
management product companies and consultants, and information technology
employees focus on the business value stream, only one included group
focuses on waste, a key concept of Lean strategy: records management. ARMA's
Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles of Retention and Disposition are
all about placing a value on information. Records management has been
responsible for ensuring only information that continues to have value, or
for which destruction would create a negative value (risk) is provisioned
and protected.
