Larry,

One of my former employers had a fire proof vault (don't believe it was one
of Hugh's) that served as the repository for the company's archive.
Contents of the archive included old minute books, newspaper articles,
biography of former executives, projects of historical nature, awards from
various sources and brochures for events that the company sponsored.  But
as you note most businesses discard records as soon as they legally can.
