Thank you - this has always been my thought. I am concerned that they don't have a formal "policy" though - like I said, a procedure, probably - policy, no. I am meeting with them today to discuss. These types of discussions are always difficult with our IS department.

I wouldn't recommend adding to the retention schedule. Instead a process for the destruction of the tapes should be included in the rotation policy/procedure. Of course your IS department then needs to follow it.
