I'm with you David, I discourage our users in writing anything on the outside of a box--except for an internal box number (in pencil), or on the inside of the box lid. I even try to limit the amount of data I send to the vendor for new boxes... my attitude is the less my vendor knows about my boxes, the better (no disrespect to vendors intended). I want to track records internally, and don't want to depend on a vendor to know what's in my stuff. That is a [hard] lesson learned after changing vendors several times over the years for different clients (during my consulting days), and employers.
Thanks.
