Thank you everyone for your replies, they really help me in reconciling my
student idealism with workplace realities.


Ginny touched on the heart of my uncertainty: as a $pace saving strategy,
can permanent-retention informational records be disposed of after they are
be digitized, and the scans are validated as true copies of the originals?
Are there official service providers for the validation, or can a notary
perform this function?


Considering the layers of objects that need to be migrated successfully
from one operating system and software program to the next, is this a
practical solution for one non-academic non-profit institution, or am I
better off just renting space for the paper originals for now?
