I reached out to Liz Icenogle, ARMA International's Director of Government
Affairs, and the organizer of the reception. here is what she sent.

For those who are attending the Congressional reception - what a great
opportunity to help speak on behalf of our industry.

Congressional office buildings are secure, but not as described below. You
can bring in all of the (safe) belongings you see fit – cameras and phones
included. They will just have to go through the security screening process
(a belt for your belongings and a metal detector that you walk through).

Anytime you are meeting an elected official or their staff, it is important
to maintain general business customs like shaking hands and exchanging
business cards. Beyond that, speak clearly and concisely. You may only
have only a few minutes to discuss ideas and to get your points across.
They genuinely want to hear from those they represent, so don’t be afraid
to talk about your personal experiences and talk about your home state or
district.

If you have other concerns, ARMA’s Director of Government Affairs will be
at ARMA Central on the Expo floor from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday,
Oct. 5th and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6th. She can
help work through any of your questions and provide additional tips on
speaking with staff members and elected officials.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Conference
