LTFS with drag and drop with reasonable volumes per tape would seem to handle most all but the most extreme storage requirements. What percentage of the market even needs this high capacity?
The concept of storing all the eggs in one basket has always been problematic. These massive libraries seem to present E-Discovery nightmares.
And all of the thoughts Larry and others have mentioned.
It makes one wonder how stupid the IT Industry thinks its user group is, if they keep introducing the same failed ideas; with a new brand name every so often. If there revolutionary concept is based on a little larger capacity disk it would seem they misunderstand the market.
I don’t see the airline industry trying to convert all of their planes to 500 seat behemoths. I don’t see the auto industry trying to convert all vehicles into mini-vans. What is their fascination with volume?
Like McDonald’s McRIB sandwich, they bring around this failed concept around and display it as a novelty. Then we forget that this McRib is not even real meat and that eating ribs is not normal. And just when we are ready to complain; … they bring out the green St. Patrick’s Day milk shakes and all is forgiven.
