I think it's too early to say that big data is going to trump everything else, 
but I absolutely agree with you that it's changing things.  Records 
managers have been butting into it quite a bit and will continue to do so for 
some time.



You nail it on the head with knowing "what it is and where it is" - that task 
alone may keep records managers employed for generations, *especially* 
if all data is preserved forever.  I suppose it's possible that software 
someday will magically organize and manage all information for us, but in 
my years in the industry the promise of innovative information technology 
has arched decades ahead of the reality, and companies are still obligated 
to manage their information in the meantime.
