Actually, Don, the use of block chain technology for use in authenticating digital preservation has already been proposed by Kevin Lagaisse, in a blog dated 29 January 2016:  http://kevin.lagaisse.fr/une-blockchain-pour-larchivage-a-valeur-probatoire/.

Sorry, it's in French. But the question of ensuring authenticity over the very long term is a very hot issue in Europe.
