Audrey,

You should consider basing your eDMS on the content of the objects you plan
to manage. Records retention regulations and operational/business
requirements usually focus on the information conveyed in an object's
content. This database structure will aid in developing and maintaining a
content management system that compliments, or better yet, seamlessly
integrates with records management. If you have a records management
program in place, it is most likely that records are dispositioned based on
their content. You can use that structure in the eDMS as a starting point.
