I believe accession generically refers to any shipment/addition of
records to a repository.
The question seems to be what a specific subset of an accession
can/should be referred to as. Greg Hunter in a previous post referred to
these as "blocks".
So...an accession could be comprised of boxes of random files and/or a
"block" comprised of one or more boxes of a singular records series or
project file.
I like that.

I hauled off and pulled out a textbook...; 4th Edition of Information
and Records Management; Robek, Brown, and Stephens (Madke is an older
edition). I keep this around to help in training new staff.
"Accession A shipment of records received into the Records Center or
archives for storage and retrieval."
Unless Bill Benedon CRM sheds new light, or old whale-oil lamplight, for
a better term describing the antiquated media at that particular point,
then "accession" is it!
