In my mind a virtual document is one that is created, maintained and
preserved in an electronic environment without existing in a physical
form. What you have described is what I would call a compound
document. An example would be a word processing document which has a
spreadsheet embedded in it. By clicking on the spreadsheet one can
then edit the spreadsheet. Others may call it a hybrid document
