*Government Records Analyst* (Librarian I) for the Records Management 
Section, Library & Archives Division of the Kansas Historical Society

The position of Government Records Analyst works within the Records 
Management Section to develop an effective and efficient state records 
management program for both state and local government agencies in the 
State of Kansas. The position includes the following duties:

· Promotes the adoption of records management methods and best practices 
for records in electronic, paper, and other formats in compliance with 
applicable records laws;

· Analyzes business processes to determine agency functions and the 
resulting records series and information systems to develop records 
retention and disposition schedules;

· Evaluates, inspects, and proposes new or revised agency recordkeeping 
practices;

· Consults on records management and preservation issues related to 
imaging systems, databases, and other electronic information systems, as 
well as media such as microfilm;

· Works with others to develop enterprise guidelines and best practices, 
generally for the management of electronic records;

· Works with agencies to develop and then helps review recordkeeping 
plans detailing strategies for keeping electronic records authentic, 
reliable, and accessible for approved retention periods; and

· Serves as part of the core reference staff, providing assistance to 
researchers in the Society’s reference room on a routine basis, 
including several Saturdays and/or holidays each year.

The government records analyst also participates in the activities of 
professional organizations, attends archival training sessions, studies 
professional literature, assists at the state records center when 
necessary, delivers talks to educational and civic groups and performs 
other duties as assigned in order to help carry out the mission of the 
Historical Society and in order to acquire additional knowledge and 
skills relevant to archival work and records management.

*Required:* Master's degree in history, library science (ALA 
accredited), archival administration, political science, or a related 
field. Knowledge and experience with electronic information systems 
including imaging systems, databases, content management systems, etc. 
Knowledge and experience with business process analysis methodology. 
Good oral and written communication skills, and ability to work amicably 
with a wide variety of people who may have little or no knowledge of 
archival systems and records management.

*Preferred:* One year experience in archival and/or records management, 
particularly with records appraisals, surveys, and retention and 
disposition schedule development.
