Irene Gelyk asked:

I'm wondering if anyone in the technology sector might be able to share
your enterprise-wide Records Retention Policy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Irene,

I just left aerospace (after 28 years). The retention for most
non-Government technical records (other than commercial aviation) was
generally 10 years after all liabilities for performance of the product
had lapsed. For example, if the product was a communications satellite,
the contract may have guaranteed 15-years of product life. If so,
retention would have been 10 years + 15 years = 25 years.

Commercial aviation product records retention is tightly government by
the FAA, and is a whole separate can of worms. Unless that's where your
firm operates, this won't mean anything to you.

For US Government contracts, FAR would define most of the retention
requirements, but they'd mostly boil down to Final Payment + 3 years.

I don't know if this is of any use to you, or not.
