Ray,

This issue has been raised as we have been trying to help classify
electronic records/data in systems and is a concern with a few of the
data architects in our organization. I have explained about our
retention policy and that if what is in the data warehouse is not the
official record, we certainly would not want to keep the data longer
than the "official" copy retention. However, the data architect's argue
that one important function of the data warehouse is to warehouse data
long-term providing historical data for modeling, relationship
management, etc. I would argue that the business function of the data
then has changed and it would be classified as a different record series
that better fits modeling, etc.

What do y'all think?

Subject: The Data Warehouse - What is the relationship to RIM

In a discussion this a.m. with some colleagues the concept of the Data
Warehouse (DW) came up and its relationship to RIM practices. How do you
manage the DW in your RIM program? What is the relationship of the Data
Warehouse to recordkeeping?

A theoretical discussion for Wednesday.
