And it's a completely legitimate question.

DANGER, the prior service provider who managed data backups for T-Mobile had
a 3x redundant system and backups captured on the fly, and while they had
the occasional "hiccup", they NEVER experienced a data meltdown.

Less than 2 years ago, DANGER was bought out by a firm based in Redmond WA
(who shall remain nameless, like the nefarious guy in the Harry Potter
books) and they made a decision about two months ago to change this practice
and went to a single server environment, and someone must have made an
assumption that someone else had done something they didn't do, and when the
server went down last week... there was no replicated server or backups.

They are still hunting high and low, and I'm guessing they're hoping DANGER
has a backup SOMEWHERE of SOMETHING that will allow them to rebuild a
portion of the data, but it doesn't look good.

EVEN IF THEY DO... they're going to have to be very careful in how they tell
people what to do when they connect... because if the data is old, it could
wipe out the current data on all of the phones that are still active and
haven't lost data. And other who lost everything will only get back what
was current at the date of the backup that's installed.

The big issue here is CREDIBILITY... and it's not DANGER that has the
problem, it's he-who-must-remain-nameless that does... and given their past
problem trying to roll out phones (epic fail) and the plans for "pink" (next
generation epic fail) and their effort to get people to hang their data up
in their cloud, this little boo-boo could have some people looking for new
jobs REAL SOON... wonder what impact this is going to have on their stock
value as soon as people REALLY UNDERSTAND what happened??
