Gordy, thank you for your most recent posting. I agree with the point that you are trying to make regarding ethical behavior and conflict of interest. I try to live by those standards, too. What can I do or say to assure you that both Galina and I upheld the highest ethical standards? Galina had no idea that I had registered to participate in the forum. Galina had no idea that I had submitted questions for the candidates. I posed a question to the candidates for President about their views on the impact of cloud computing on records management. I wanted to know if they thought that this was something to be embraced or avoided. I appreciated the candor of their responses. I also posed a question to the BOD candidates about their view of the 21st century records manager and whether ARMA education programs were adequately preparing us for the new challenges facing all of us. There were outstanding and thoughtful responses and I feel better knowing that the candidates for the various positions all have outstanding qualities, experience, and an eye on the future.

While I feel that I have the right to ask questions of the candidates, it did not occur to me that others would view this as a conflict of interest. Obviously, you felt that way and a couple of other members of the listserv seemed to agree with you. Where do or should we draw the line to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest? What if I know a candidate well? What if I worked with a candidate on an ARMA task force? What if the candidate is a colleague of mine from our employer?

I submitted my questions to gain a better appreciation of the vision and the direction that each of the candidates have for ARMA. I want to make an informed vote when I cast my ballot. In doing so, I did not intend to raise a conflict of interest. I am truly sorry that it appeared that way to you and to a few others. Once again, I assure you that there was no collusion and no intended conflict of interest.
