For those of you working for law firms, do you include support staff in
your ethical walls? If not, do you have a written policy (or do you
know of a Bar Association ethical decision) that addresses this?

I'm asking because we have a file room supervisor who used to be a legal
assistant. As a legal assistant, some of the billable things she worked
on are now subject to ethical walls. These walls have been applied to
her. However, she now cannot access information in our records system
about these matters. I've asked our Risk Management folks about it, but
they're hesitating in giving me an answer.

My opinion -- and that's all it is -- is that support staff should be
removed from ethical walls, since they need to support all activities.
But, I don't have anything to back that up, and am wondering if that
situation has arisen for others (and how they've dealt with it).

Thanks!
