Regarding the question of how records management has anything to do with
security....
I would answer with no hesitation, "It's about managing the risk of
information management. Information security build defenses. Records
Management defines what has to be guarded and for how long. Information
security builds databases. Records Management defines the taxonomy and
works with Information Security to establish "authorized business use"
needs as well as retrieval mechanisms. Information security builds
protection based on rules and authorized users...which are translated by
Records Management based on citations, best business practices, and
business needs. Information Security responds to electronic data
breaches, Records Management responds to privacy requirements regardless
of the media."
They have common goals and risk management requirements.
