Dear list members,

Some might remember me from my last posting to this list in last December. If not, here again my intro: I work in the area of records management in an international human rights organisation in France.

This time I am looking for your feedback and return regarding the scanning of invoices: is it worth it? What are your experiences?

Our Finance Department processes each year about 30 linear meters of invoices. The data is entered manually into the financial management system. Now, the idea is to scan, OCR and process them with one of these “intelligent” scanning machines, so that the data of the invoice – supplier, invoice number, invoice date, amount and so on - goes directly into the electronic financial management system. These machines are very expensive, and we also imagine that feeding the scanner with attention to non-standard formats and removing staples is quite work-intensive.

I am looking forwards to your experience, insights, suggestions and recommendations.

Also, does anybody know about any case-studies to prove the return on investment?

Thank you.

Best regards,
Gesa Büttner
