You may find this CCTV Code of Conduct of interest (or there may also be something more applicable in your jurisdiction). It is anticipated these will be superseded by forthcoming data protection legislation, which may also require you to dispose of recordings within a certain timeframe.

Section 10 notes that general recorded data will be retained for 60 days and then automatically deleted on day 61. In the case of an incident or authorised request, footage is copied to another medium and subject to retention rules for "evidence".
