regarding "images are hand-written (some in cursive) "
 
I know that there are programs on the market that are able to identify hand-writing till certain point.
In 1994, I was surprised that Archives of Ben-Gurion in Israel was able to teach program to identify up to  60 different hand-writing ways for every letter that Ben-Gurion used to do - taking into consideration that he wrote in different languages, it was amazing for me.
Of course, after that Archives / students / checked text, but main work was done by OCR.
 
I think that there are better products now.
