I agree with all of Pilar's points.  Gathering in person in a RIM-soaked atmosphere greatly enhances the learning experience and charges the RIM batteries (so to speak).  I usually leave Conference feeling motivated to continue my work and to implement new directions where needed.  I do not get the same feeling from web interfaces or chat at all.
