We certainly hope everyone is getting through this safely and OK. However, I
can tell you something to watch for in about a year - your homeowners
insurance may go up - a lot. Why? Re: "Lots of Roof damage".

Here in Tennessee we had a massive hail storm about a year ago. Huge hail
stones destroyed roofs and cars throughout the Southeast. All vehicles
exposed to the weather had big dents or broken windshields. Auto dealers
were hit really hard and had hail damage sales afterward. You could see
$50,000 cars and up driving around like someone had attacked them with a
hammer. And roofs were massacred. So the insurance companies all paid out
big time. Almost everyone got a quick estimate and a new roof. For months
all you could hear as you drove around was hammering on roof tops.

Then earlier this year my homeowners insurance jumped about 50%. I called to
ask why. The answer - "Our rates had to go up because of all of the roof
damage and other insurance claims." Really? I thought they were supposed to
take a loss during such calamities, since it is not the homeowners fault.
What have we been paying for all of those 20 plus previous years with no
claims!

Well, in summary, I threatened to switch both auto and home and they
realized that some money was better than none. I ended up getting serious
reductions in both auto and home rates to even lower than what I was
originally paying. Get ready to document your damages with good records and
be very assertive!

John

Subject: Storming in Pennsylvania

Lots of trees down here in Pennsylvania. The rain made the big ones easy to
topple. Lots of roof damage. This will be an expensive storm for NYC to
clean up from. Out here in rural area we count our blessings.

Power will be out for a while. My wife hates that. It certainly limits my
on line time.

I worry about that snow they predicted but so far I can't tell if that
happened. Even when you escape the worst you feel bad for those who did not.
