Oddly enough, Twinkies and Hostess products can't go away. They are
virtually impermeable to degradation, much like a granite or marble
gravestone. Back in my art school undergrad days, we left a Sno-ball out
on a shelf in the wood shop to see what would happen to it. Nothing. Even
the ants and rodents didn't bother with it. The following semester it was
still on the shelf, and had become rock-hard. The pink color had also
turned a little gray. It sat on the shelf for at least another semester or
year until another student happened upon it, wasn't sure what it was and
decided to slice it on the ban saw, thinking it was some exotic wood
leftover. The inside was still white and went back on the shelf after he
was let in on the joke. That was about 20 years ago, and I wouldn't be
surprised if that split Sno-ball is still there.

I bought a Sno-ball, but will not use it for food.
