Next year, I will have the privilege of engaging a an assessor to come and assess my 150+ year old collection of documents that contain every President's original signature from Abraham Lincoln onward. I also have a spectacular collection of photographs, hand-painted maps, diaries, hand-written warranty deed ledgers, plus a collection of railroad memorabilia worthy of any museum.

Has anyone ever engaged an assesor to place a value on a historical records collection? I have only done so once in my professional career and that involved historical art work, but this is a bit different and I am having trouble finding someone who can help me place a value on the collection. These documents and associated works are related to the history of our country and include handwritten diaries and drawings, letters from the Lewis and Clark, railroad contracts signed by Wild Bill Hickok, General Custer, Walt Disney, and Barnum and Bailey's Circus. The documents signed by Presidents include the establishment of right-of-way, movement of government and military material during the various wars, and the opening of new territory for the railroad which was documented by the various photographers that were hired to ride the railroads and photograph new territory.

I've reached out to the Southwest Society of Archivists and the Society of American Archivists, but does anyone have other suggestions?
